My Self care Sunday Practice - Body Scan Mediation or Yoga Nidra

What is it?

Body scanning is a guided practice that involves paying attention to parts of the body and bodily sensations in a gradual sequence from feet to head. By mentally scanning yourself, you bring awareness to every single part of your body, noticing any aches, pains, tension, or general discomfort. The practice of yoga nidra is the same concept but instead of body parts you pay attention to the chakras. I practice lying on my mat (sometimes in 🛌) with a cosy blanket and my eye pillow.

Why I Practice It?

Easy and Super Relaxing - perfect for a lazy Sunday afternoon, it involves zero effort unlike a normal sitting meditation listening to the breath which I find quiet mentally draining sometimes

Body awareness - I feel more comfortable and appreciative in my own skin
Better focus- I find after doing a body scan practice at the weekend, my focus in meditation during the following week is much better

Pain management - I suffer with some back and shoulder pain and this method of being present with the pain and breathing into it releases so much tension

The benefits of body scan meditation are said to include managing chronic pain, reducing anxiety or stress, and getting better sleep

My favourites:

The body scan I use is "Guided body scan Mediation for Mind & Body Healing" by Micheal Sealey on YouTube https://youtu.be/i7xGF8F28zo

My favourite yoga nidra practice you will also find on YouTube by Allie Michelle "Yoga Nidra: reduce anxiety, alleviate stress, improve sleep" https://youtu.be/3O-_Hni5eiE
